Why The Media Can’t Bash The Master Cleanse

In response to an attack on the Master Cleanse (also commonly known as the Lemonade Diet) in the media, a few key points should be addressed and clarified. After all, Burroughs’ Master Cleanse gives great results in so many cases that hundreds of thousands of people do it every year without any press or media attention and motivate others to follow suit. The biggest issue is the inconsistency of the range of products and information that are still being called the Master Cleanse, or the Lemonade Diet, which are actually not Burroughs’ Master Cleanse.

For example, on one of the websites for the Master Cleanse, 8 different kits are available for sale, however, only one of them is for the Master Cleanse as written by Stanley Burroughs. The other 7 kits, also called Master Cleanse kits, are for every variation imaginable. There is a kit that contains protein to take during the cleanse for those concerned about their protein intake, another provides vitamins to take during the cleanse, etc. Why not sell another with food for those that get hungry? All these versions detract from and defeat the purpose of the Lemonade Diet.

As those familiar with the Burroughs’ Master Cleanse know, the power of this cleanse comes from it being a juice fast. Fasting has been around for centuries, supported by numerous cultures around the world and has been traditionally used as a way to restore health and vitality. The closer one is able to get to a pure water fast (meaning no other fluids or foods are taken), the more powerful its results. Any addition to the fast, whether it be psyllium husk or bentonite clay shakes, protein or vitamins, reduces its effectiveness and makes it perform as just another colon cleanse, instead of being a cleanse for the entire body, like Burroughs says.

Educating people is the better approach. Helping them understand that going without protein for a period of 10, 20 or 40 days is not fatal, will not cause permanent damage and can actually reap positive rewards as can be seen from the results posted by the more than 450 people so far in this year’s January cleanse.

There are countless websites that contain misinformation or sell kits that do not strictly adhere to Stanley Burroughs’ Master Cleanse. These site and providers are doing a disservice to their customers because the Master Cleanse has been proven to work by so many people—as long as it’s done correctly.

It’s also worth noting that many media reports on the Lemonade Diet provide opinions by persons who have never actually done the cleanse.

The most effective way to do the Lemonade Diet is to follow the guidelines, exactly, according to Stanley Burroughs’ Master Cleanse. It continues to be spread and used because it continues to reap such great results with those who try it. Regardless of what is said about it in the media, word of mouth continues to get the word out to others. The beneficial effects are what continue to inspire and motivate more and more to try it. When the proof is in the pudding, so to speak, it won’t make any difference what someone in the media has to say about it. The real danger comes in changing the Master Cleanse into something much less effective and still calling it the Master Cleanse. Because then people who don't get great results will think they've tried it and they'll tell others it doesn't work and those people will never get a chance to see what the real Master Cleanse can do.

Take Control Of Your Health

Your mind can be the most powerful tool you have. Buddha is quoted as saying, “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become.” Consequently, the first thought to good health should be along the lines of, “There is a way to control my health.”

To paraphrase Richard Anderson in “Cleanse and Purify Thyself”, when a doctor says to a patient that there is no hope, they are relaying the message that if they follow the prescribed treatment, they will die.

Medicine should not be based on the ideas that one is helpless to alter the course of their own health and that a person who has undergone years of training and education are the only ones that can help me.

The history of healing can be traced back before the dominance of our modern allopathic school of medicine and surgery, just over half a century ago. Before the advent of modern medicine were various different methods of healing.

There are numerous methods of healing that are based on the concept that the individual is responsible for his or her condition and can make changes for the better. Perhaps this is the basis of the old Chinese saying “When you are sick of sickness, you are no longer sick.” Below is a list of some of these various schools of healing.

1. Naturopathy (Natural cures for disease)

Naturopathy uses sunshine, right thought, exercise, nutrition, herbs, massage and water (baths, enemas, colonics and cleanses like the Lemonade Diet) to cure or manage disease.

2. Traditional Eastern Medicine

These methods of healing are based on the idea that the energy that governs the health and function of the body flows in certain defined paths that which can be monitored and manipulated (acupuncture) or through the use of herbs (Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine -- Ancient East Indian medicine).

3. Spiritual Healing

Religious teachings such as Christian Science and Scientology, manifest that the Spirit that made the body can heal the body. Although Scientology encourages medical treatment for illnesses or accidents where there is a known and certain cure, it also teaches practical ways of relieving the stress that is the underlying cause of all disease and illness.

4. Chiropractic

“Chiropractic" literally means, “done by hand.” The spine is manipulated to restore the ability of the mysterious, divine life force within all men (the "Innate") to flow unobstructed from the brain through the nerves to all the organs of the body. David Palmer, founded and taught the practice after he restored the hearing of an employee who had been deaf for 17 years, by adjusting his neck.

5. Homeopathy (curing disease with substances that create similar symptoms)

Founded by Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), homeopathy came into being after it was discovered that certain elements would mimic symptoms of a particular disease. Hahnemann realized that quinine given to a healthy person caused malarial symptoms and thus proved to him the principle that "like treats like" in the same way as the old Greeks treated diarrhea with herbs that caused the body to have several urgent eliminations.

The main principle behind homeopathy is the belief that the body is capable of healing and treating itself, therefore taking homeopathic medicines to reproduce the symptoms of the ailment, the body is triggered into an action of healing itself. The difference between modern medicine and homeopathy is that in modern medicine a symptom is considered a manifestation of disease and to be suppressed, whereas in homeopathy, symptoms are a way for the body to heal itself.

Doing a thorough internal cleanse first would be an excellent way to begin any health regimen. One of the more effective ones is the Lemonade Diet, which assists the body in cleansing the liver, kidneys and colon, and gives you a renewed sense of overall well-being.

Losing Weight Is Just A Bonus For Doing The Lemonade Diet

The Lemonade Diet is a great way to lose weight, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg. The true benefit of doing the Lemonade Diet lies in its ability to cleanse, or detoxify your system, leading to improved overall health. Weight loss is just a nice side effect.

When the liver can't detoxify all the toxins from the environment and food, it stores these toxins in fat cells. This process has also been explained by Carolyn Dean, MD & ND (Doctor of Naturopathy), author of The Miracle of Magnesium and Natural Prescriptions for Common Ailments. Detoxifying these stored toxins allows the body to get rid of the fat. In fact, any means of detoxifying will result in reducing fat and therefore, weight loss.

People who try the Lemonade Diet exclusively to lose weight are frequently surprised by all the other positive effects, such as increased energy, calmness, sense of smell; reduced arthritic pain and clearer skin—to mention a few of the more common ones. These are due to the elimination of toxins.

While it is a fact that the American news media focuses its attention to slim, trim bodies, resulting in the current preoccupation with dieting, it’s also believed that fundamentally, we are naturally attracted to healthy people—and slim, trim people are generally healthier.

Don’t forget that detoxifying with the Master Cleanse is only one third of the requirements for vibrant good health. Good nutrition in what we choose to eat—or drink, in the case of vegetable juicing—and lack of suppressive stress are the other two crucial aspects of achieving this goal. In order to maintain vibrant good health, you must have all three.

Lemonade Diet but why?

The Dairy Farmer Who Turned His Back on Cows

A boy who grew up on a dairy farm and went to university to study how to grow cows more efficiently doesn't seem like the most likely person to reject animal protein diets for plants, but then this is no ordinary man. You might be wondering what this has to do Cleansing and the Lemonade Diet, just read on.

Colin Campbell, Ph.D. has been studying nutrition for more than 40 years. A former professor of nutritional biochemistry at Cornell University, he served as a research associate at MIT before spending 10 years at Virginia Tech's Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition before returning to the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell in 1975.

His interest in health and nutrition involved him in the Philippines to develop a program to feed malnourished children. There he began to see a link between animal protein and disease.

Subsequently, he became Project Director of the China-Oxford-Cornell Diet and Health Project, a 20-year partnership of Cornell University, Oxford University and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine. This study is the most comprehensive study of health and nutrition ever conducted! His book is "The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-Term Health," written by himself and his son, Thomas M. Campbell II (BenBella Books, Dallas, Texas, 2005),

His book on the study details the connection between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes and cancer; and nutrition's ability to reduce or reverse the effects of these illnesses. It also explores the nutritional confusion of the public produced by powerful food companies and government entities.

Joel Fuhrman, M.D. draws the same conclusion in his book, "Eat to Live" (Little Brown & Co., New York, 2003) His comparison of the percentage of unrefined plant food in the diet of 12 countries (including the US) and the percentage of deaths from heart disease and cancer from these same countries shows a definite, direct relationship. Dr. Fuhrman also is quite the proponent of the Lemonade Diet.
